Dental Sealants Medford, MA

Dental Sealants

Dental sealant is a thin, plastic coating painted on the chewing surfaces of teeth — usually the back teeth(the premolars and molars) — to prevent tooth decay.

Tooth Sealants

Tooth decay is one of the most common dental conditions affecting patients and it’s more prevalent among children. Dental cavities or caries are caused by plaque, which is formed due to bacteria, acid, food particles, saliva and poor oral hygiene. For this reason, dentists have created a procedure in which a protective barrier is applied to the surface of the teeth to prevent tooth decay. A person of any age can benefit from dental sealants, but the procedure is geared towards children so that they can start the prevention process early on in their lives. GIO Dental at Station Landing offers dental sealants for anyone looking to protect their teeth.

Benefits

Dental sealants can be beneficial to a person’s oral health in a number of ways. A person seeking dental sealants can achieve optimal tooth decay prevention with minimal risk. The procedure is quick and painless, and offers up to a decade of protection. Dental sealants will:

  • Provide a shield over the teeth

  • Help prevent cavities

  • Help prevent tooth decay

  • Save money in the long run

  • Prevent the need for fillings and crowns

  • Help fight plaque build up

  • Keep teeth healthy for up to 10 years

Procedure

Placing dental sealants is typically a quick, simple, and painless process. The procedure is also safe, and does not require anesthetics of any kind. First, a dental hygienist will remove any plaque and food debris that may be stuck in the grooves of the teeth. Once the teeth are clean and polished, the dental sealant material will be applied to the surface of the teeth with a brush. The sealant material is then bonded to the teeth using a special light. Once the sealant has hardened, it transforms into a sturdy, plastic coating, and the teeth can be used to chew once again.

Recovery

The recovery process for the dental sealant procedure is virtually nonexistent. Patients can use their teeth as they normally would immediately after the sealant is applied and hardened. After leaving the dental office, patients are advised to care for their teeth with a standard oral hygiene regimen. Daily brushing and flossing, along with a healthy diet will help prolong the life of the sealant. Regular checkups at GIO Dental will also help to keep the sealants at their best. With proper care, the dental sealant can last up to ten years.

Our community has been through a lot over the last few months, and all of us are looking forward to resuming our normal habits and routines. While many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your safety.

Infection control has always been a top priority for Gio Dental at Station Landing. We have been closely monitoring recommendations from valid sources including the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS), and the American Dental Association (ADA), and have updated our protocols accordingly.

This means you will see some changes at Gio Dental at Station Landing when it's time for your next appointment. Some of these changes include:

  • Hand sanitizer will be provided and its use required prior to entering the office.
  • You will be asked screening questions and receive a no-contact temperature check upon arrival to your appointment.
  • Our staff will also undergo daily temperature checks.
  • We ask that you come to your appointment individually (without any guests or children please).
  • All clients must wear a mask to their appointment to protect themselves and those around them.
  • Our staff will also be wearing PPE including masks, gloves, scrubs and / or lab coats.
  • In an effort to promote social distancing, you may notice that our waiting room offers fewer seats. In addition, we have removed magazines and other items that promote unnecessary contact.
  • We have decreased the number of appointments per day as well as increased the interval between appointments to allow for increased sanitation measures and to minimize the number of people in the office at a given time.

As always, we encourage open communication and can be reached by email or phone to address any other questions or concerns that you may have.

We appreciate your trust and loyalty and look forward to seeing you all again soon!
